Physical Education

Physical Education

Physical activity not only improves health, reduces stress and improves concentration, but also promotes correct physical growth and development. Exercise has a positive influence on academic achievement, emotional stability and interaction with others.

PE develops the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. We provide the broad and balanced programme of physical education we believe every child should have; with activities designed to be enjoyable, vigorous, purposeful and regular. Through providing positive experiences, a lifelong interest in physical activity is encouraged, as well as promoting positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle.  By giving pupils the opportunities to compete in sports and other activities, it enables pupils to build character and help embed sportsmanship values such as fairness and respect.

The range of physical activities is wide and includes athletics, dance, games, gymnastics, swimming and outdoor education. A high quality programme is designed to satisfy the needs, abilities and interests of all individual children. At Newhall Park Primary School each class will receive 2 hours of Physical Education per week plus 15 minutes each day of the ‘Daily Mile initiative’.

Aims of the department:

  • To develop pupil’s competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • To ensure pupils are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • To engage pupils in competitive sports and activities
  • To enable pupils to lead healthy, active lives.

Sports Day 2022

Our annual sports event was a success! The event took place on Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th of July. The children really enjoyed themselves and there was lots of competitive spirit on display. The children competed in a wide range of events from the sack race to the hurdles. It was certainly a special event as it was the first Sports Day with parents involved. It was amazing to hear the encouragement from the parents and the children enjoyed having their adults there. Thank you all for a successful two days. Below are some of the photos from our event.
