The weather has been fantastic this week and we even managed to have the class photos outside on Wednesday.
At the beginning of the week the Reception children went to Skelton Grange for the day. The children had a fantastic time and it was a valuable learning experience for them. Quite a few fell asleep on the coach on the way home!
The previous week was the Year 3 trip. They visited Thornton Hall Farm and their understanding related to their topic looking at land use was really enhanced. In my next blog I will include a montage of photographs of the all educational, off site visits from this half term.
Last week the children in KS1 completed the phonics screen. The children have done really well but we are expecting the results to be down compared to our historical results. However, considering the journey the children have had through Nursery and Reception due to the pandemic this is not a surprise to us. We are introducing a new, validated phonics scheme in September called ‘Little Wandle’. This will help staff to quickly plug any remaining gaps in learning the children may have.
The Year 4 children have been completing their statutory Times Tables Check this week. This is delivered online and the children have 6 seconds each time to answer a range of questions up to 12 x 12. We will get a benchmark to compare the performance of the children at Newhall Park with other schools.
Keep up the fantastic work 👌🏻
